Let the monogramming begin...

We are getting SO excited about our sweet baby girl arriving in September and we have chosen the perfect name for her! There are so many girl names that I just LOVE so it was hard to narrow it down, but we decided on the most sentimental name that will bring a smile to our face every time we say it...
Elizabeth Jewel
"Ellie"
She will be named after my precious grandmother who I loved more than anything! My grandmother's name was Jewel Elizabeth so we are switching it up just a bit, but it means so much to us just the same! We will call her Ellie. My Grandmommie was THE MOST amazing, Christian, kind-hearted woman you have ever met! I am so proud to be able to name my sweet baby girl after such an incredible person. She lived her life to the fullest for 88 wonderful years and set the most beautiful example of what a person should be better than anyone I have ever known! Everyone who was lucky enough to know her, truly loved her. I was so blessed to grow up so close to my grandmommie and I miss her every day. The biggest compliment I could ever receive is that I remind someone of my grandmother. She was simply...amazing. I wish she was still with us on Earth to celebrate the birth of Ellie, but I know she is celebrating in Heaven and is thrilled to have a sweet little namesake for a great-granddaughter!

Enjoying the Summer....

Wow, where has the month of June gone??? How is it possible that there is only one week left in June? And, even more amazing, how is it possible that there are only three weeks left until my baby is TWO???? Sorry for the lack of blogging, we have been busy trying to keep up with our crazy, fun-loving, almost-two-year-old! After getting over Tanner's week-long sickness of croup, here is a quick re-cap of what we have been up to since summer began:
  • a wonderful, fun-filled trip to Oklahoma to visit Nana, Grandpa, Great-Grandma & Great-Grandpa (post of all the fun things we did on the farm to come!)
  • 2 trips to Willowbend Mall to play and eat lunch with friends
  • a fun visit to the library for storytime and songs
  • awesome gymnastics classes
  • an amazingly fun & much-needed date-night for Mommy & Daddy in Tulsa
  • too many Chick Fil A lunches with friends to count
  • Tanner jumping out of his crib (yikes!)
  • Mommy got a new car!
  • our house sold (sniff, sniff)- very sad about leaving our first home, but also super excited about the future & to be closer to Shane during the day
  • playing at our favorite, toddler-friendly, covered park
  • great reports at the doctor's office (our sweet baby is growing perfectly!)
  • trying to beat this Texas heat (and it's only June!)
  • celebrating Mimi's birthday at Texas Roadhouse with my wonderful family
  • Wine Night with the Girls (or just plain "Whine Night" for mommy)
  • Getting to celebrate Father's Day with ALL of our dads in one day- Tanner's Daddy, My Daddy, & Shane's Dad!
And just because I can't do a blog post without a picture of my favorite little munchkin, here you go! My crazy little boy eating spaghetti this week (hey, at least my picky eater is eating!!!!!)

sick baby boy

Well, yesterday on our first official day of summer, Tanner woke up one sick little boy! And as the day went on, he got worse & worse! I took him to the doctor (TWICE- once to our primary peditrician and also to Acute Kids After Hours for a second opinion- are we crazy parents??!! ) and was diagnosed with croup. He sounds awful- he is wheezing and super raspy! He got a shot of steroids last night (since he couldn't keep his medicine down) so hopefully we are on the road to recovery. He had a really hard night last night (waking up every 2 hours), but so far this morning seems to be feeling better! Having a sick baby just breaks my heart!!!!
When I walked into my bedroom at one point yesterday, this is what I saw.... my little man crawled up onto our pillows and was sweetly watching TV.

To top it all off, we were so sad to miss our playdate to go see Annie & Sutton's beautiful new home... guys, will you please invite us back soon when we are all better????

bittersweet.

The time has finally come and I am now officially a stay-at-home mom, and I couldn't be more thrilled and excited about the future!!!!!!!!!!! Yesterday was the last day of school and it was very bittersweet to say the least! As happy as I am to stay home with my little man and soon-to-be baby girl, it was a very hard week saying good-bye to my sweet friends and family at school. Boon is the very best school ever, and now the bar is set so high for Tanner's elementary school! I don't know how any school can ever compare! I have had the opportunity to share the last 4 years with some of the most A-MAZING people who I feel so lucky to call friends. I will always remember my precious 2nd grade team, my wonderful administrators, and the sweet families I have taught, and I hope, hope, hope I will stay in touch with them!!! I will always, always have a special place in my heart for my Boon family. It was a very emotional week as I am closing a special chapter in my life, but I don't have one regret or one doubt about staying at home with my babies. I thought I would be bawling as I walked out of my classroom for the last time yesterday, but I had such a sense of peace and joy about it, and as I turned out the light, walked out of my classroom, and shut the door, I smiled and thought about the last few years and the special memories I made and about the next few years and how fun and exciting they will be!!!! I absolutely can't wait for all the fun times ahead!!!
I took quite a few pictures of my sweet kids at school this week & was planning on posting all about them, but then thought about privacy issues and decided to just post one group class picture from Wednesday when the families in my classroom threw a baby shower for me! They seriously spoiled me this year (just like every year!!!!!). I got some of THE cutest little girl outfits, socks, sleepers, children's books, baby toys, gift cards, etc, etc!!!! I am so blessed to have taught such kind and giving kids! Here are the 2008-2009 Wilson Wild Things!!! :)After school, I went to my last Patriot Pick-Me-Up (aka "happy hour") on the patio at the Twin Creeks Golf Club. Although I couldn't have a "happy drink", it was so fun to visit and say good-bye to my sweet teaching friends! It was the perfect way to end the year- on a patio, overlooking a golf course, laughing and gossiping with sweet friends!!! Maybe next year, I will make a "suprise visit" at one of the Patriot Pick-Me-Ups when I can actually have a yummy drink!!! After happy hour, I met my mom, Shane, & Tanner at our favorite place- Watter's Creek! My mom was so sweet to come and get Tanner after school so I could hang out with my friends, and I was so happy she was there to celebrate my "early retirement!" It was a beautiful day so we sat on the patio for dinner at Cheesecake Factory. Here are some pics at dinner... Tanner was suprisingly perfect at dinner- even though he looks like he is being a little stinker in the pictures!!

After dinner, we walked over to the big lawn & stream to listen to the outdoor band. Tanner LOVED it!! One of the many reasons I love Watter's Creek is because it is SO family-friendly!!! There were so many cute families and kids running around enjoying the fun band.
Tanner loved playing on the rocks and walking through the water!
Clapping for the band after they sang "Ride, Sally, Ride!"

Lots of pictures of Tanner playing in the water with Daddy

Tanner running around the lawn

Tanner loves his Mimi!
Jumping off the rocks into Daddy's arms! :)
It started getting dark so Shane took Tanner home and put him to bed while my mom and I shopped! What a perfect day to celebrate the start of summer and the start to my new "job!"

Afternoon of Fun with Mommy

Today I am thankful for afternoons with my baby boy. This afternoon, Shane played golf so I decided that Tanner and I would have some fun on our own- just mommy & Tanner-style! Because it was such a hot afternoon, we went and ate sno-cones! It was Tanner's first time to eat sno-cones and I just knew he would love them! Well, I should have known better...my picky little eater just played with the staw. He made a face at the first bite and refused to eat any more!!! Oh, well, I thoroughy enjoyed my vanilla sno-cone and ate every last bite!!! Maybe next time!!!

Mommy & Tanner at the sno-cone standTanner playing (and not eating) with his sno-cone...at least he didn't get messy!
After we left the sno-cone stand, we went to a great little park by our house. I love this park because it is covered (perfect for hot, sunny days) and because it is great for toddlers- nothing too scary for mommy! Here is my little boy in action- it is almost impossible to get pictures these days because he is just too fast and active!!!!

The park is attached to some baseball fields and one of Tanner's favorite things is to run up and down the bleachers (and onto the field)!
When we got home, we continued the fun and spent the rest of the evening in the backyard playing. We enjoyed our afternoon together-just the two of us- and can't wait for lots more summer fun!

2nd Annual Grillin' and Chillin' Cook-Out!

Last night we had some of our favorite friends over for our 2nd annual "Grillin' and Chillin'" playgroup family cook-out! It was such a fun evening full of messy little boys, lots of laughing, delish food (thanks to my sweet husby who grilled and my friends who brought over lots of yummy sides!), and great kick-off to summertime! Let me start off my telling you that it rained ALL day Saturday- not the best forcast for a cook-out, but we didn't let that spoil our fun! Since I knew we were probably going to have a wet backyard, I suggested that all the boys wear their favorite rainboots to play in the mud. And, boy did they ever!!! Luckily, the rain stopped just in time and it ended up being a beautiful evening! The spent most of the night outside on the patio and backyard and the boys had a BALL playing in the wet yard! Here are some pics of the fun:

And, Sutton!
Tanner lovin' on Baby Grant- he is going to be a good big brother or what???
Tanner's new best friend, Mr. David (He seriously LOVED Champan's daddy, David- it was SO cute!)
Some of the girls (Cara, Annie, & Alli)
The Grill Master
We thought the boys had gotten so dirty in the mud before dinner, but that was just the beginning! I made mudpies for each of the boys (to go along with the rainy theme of the evening!) and they loved every minute of getting to eat the delicious MESS! Here are the treats before the boys got their hands on them...
The group shot of the boys right before the mess began!
Our sweet boys SHOVELING in the goodness!

I should have taken a before & after picture because the boys were COVERED in "mud!!!!" Isn't that we little boys are suppose to do?!?!?

As a sidenote, I have to add another special part of the night.... we were up late doing lots of talking and laughing with Adam & Cara, and all of a sudden I felt my sweet baby girl in my tummy kick for the first time!!!!!!!! Even though my doctors both assured me that it was fine that I had not felt the baby move because we are so closely watching the baby and she is growing and thriving and moving in the sonograms (which we have been getting every other week), I couldn't help but worry because I thought I should have definitely felt her kick by now. But anyways, I finally felt her precious kick and I loved it!!! I could even see my stomach moving when she kicked it!!!

Thank you sweet friends for coming over for a fun & memorable evening!!!! We can't wait to do it again!!! We missed our friends who couldn't make it, but look forward to getting together again soon with you all!

PS- There is also a new post below! :)

The After Party

We had so much fun having our friends over to cook-out, and Sunday (after-the-party) was just as much fun!!! The weather was so beautiful and when Tanner woke up from his nap, we spent the afternoon in the backyard playing- still quite muddy from the weekend rain- and Tanner managed to get just as messy as the night before...and he loved every minute of it! He poured a sand pail full of water on his head, he ate left-over mudpies and shared some with with mommy and daddy, and ran around the backyard in his rainboots! What a fun Sunday afternoon!

Here are some fun pics from the day (in reverse order because I couldn't move the pictures around in blogger... ugh!):

Little Tiger in the Making

Tanner LOVES more than anything to play outside, and one of his favorite outdoor activities is practicing golf!!! It is so cute to watch! Shane has taught him to always use both hands and to keep his eye on the ball. I know we are a little biased, but we are so impressed with his "swing!" He can easily hit the ball across the yard. Daddy and Pops can't wait to really play golf with him one day! Maybe he is a little Tiger in the making! :)
I know you can't see Tanner's sweet face in these pictures, but I just had to document his young love for the game!!!

PALing Around

This week Tanner has had so much fun with his favorite pals (which means I have had so much fun with some of my favorite pals, too!). On Monday, Dena hosted the most fun playgroup! The weather was perfect & the boys had the best time running around the backyard and playing with all of Hudson's fun outdoor toys! It was so relaxing sitting on her wonderful patio catching up and laughing with my friends and watching our boys also laugh and play their little hearts out! It was the first playgroup that two-week old Grant came to & he was perfect! All of us moms loved holding him & snuggling with him!!!
(I was so proud of myself for remembering my camera, but as soon as I got it out, I realized the battery was dead. So, these pics were taken from Cara's blog!)

On Wednesday, Cara brought her sweet boys over for some more fun outdoor play! Again, we enjoyed sitting outside in the beautiful Spring weather chatting and watching the boys play! And, again, I loved getting to hold precious baby Grant!!!

Tanner's Top 10- Baby Items

Today I am going to list Tanner's (or my) top 10 favorite baby items!!! As I am thinking about sweet baby #2, I am also trying to think of any new things I may need or want! So, any of your pregnant moms, moms of new babies, moms of toddlers, or anyone else, I would love to hear your favorites! Please let me know what is new!!! And let me know what baby girl needs! :)
So, here you go... our favorites!

Number 10: Fisher Price Learn & Groove Musical Table
Tanner has loved this toy every since he was 6 months old! We took the legs off of it, and he would crawl over to it and be mesmerized by the lights and sounds. Now, he runs up to it and makes music (or crawls on top and tries to jump off!). But, never the less, he still loves to listen to his ABC's, numbers, and hear the groovy sounds!

Number 9: The Snack Trap
Tanner pretty much takes his snack trap full of goldfish where ever he goes! He even wakes up from his naps and says "snack trap!" This cheap and handy little bowl lets little kids carry their snacks around with them without making a mess (well, too much of a mess anyways!). A must-have for any new little eater!
Number 8: Praise Baby DVD's
From early on, Tanner loved watching his Praise Baby DVD's. If he was crying and I couldn't figure out why, these magical DVD's would help calm him down. They are very similar to Baby Einstein, but with way better music. I would love to hold him and sing along (of course only if no one else was around to hear me!). They have the best praise & worship songs!Number 7: Barefoot Dreams Mini Blanket
Quite possibly the softest blanket around (anything Barefoot Dreams is to die for!). This great little blanket is 18X18 inches in size and was perfect to cover him up in his little carrier when we would get out. This is a great baby gift. I was hoping that this soft, pretty blanket would be his "lovie", but more on that in a bit....

Number 6: The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD
The author of this book is genius! I didn't read the book, but we watched the DVD when Tanner was a newborn and that was even better because I was able to see the author demonstrate all his strategies to soothe a crying baby. Shane & I used his 5 S's (swinging, side, swaddle, shushing, and sucking) and they worked like a charm to help soothe Tanner as a baby when crying. I totally recommend the DVD (an easy 20 minute watch) over the book!
Number 5: Our comfy rocker/glider/recliner
I have rocked Tanner in this chair almost every day of his life! It was a splurge, but well worth it! It is SO comfy, we have taken many naps together in this sweet chair, not to mention all the times he nursed in this chair! It does it all- rocks, glides, and reclines. (Just FYI- the chair is super cute.... this picture doesn't do it much justice. Add some pillows and a throw, and it made the perfect addition to the corner of Tanner's nursery!).
Number 4: The Boppy
A must-have for any new mom, especially if you are nursing! I think I took this boppy every where we went for the first 9 months of Tanner's life! For some reason, I was not able to nurse without it!!! It just made it so much easier for me! It was a permanent "pillow" on our couch for months. And, my favorite boppy cover was from Pottery Barn Kids- so soft and so cute!
Number 3: Jellycat Sheep
Tanner L.O.V.E.S "sheep"! This is officially his lovie that he must sleep with for every nap and every night. And the best part, it is literally the size of him!!!! At first, it just looked super cute in his crib, but as he got older, he began dragging it everywhere and insisting on having it with him every time he slept! He takes it to Wendy's every day, and if for some reason we forget it at home, Wendy comes to our house to get it!!!! It is so sweet to watch Tanner in his monitor every night snuggle up with "sheep." The brand is Jellycat, and I randomly registered for it at this cute little shop in downtown McKinney (Ambrosia) that I registered at when I was pregnant with Tanner. I didn't think I would actually get this cute stuffed animal (it is a little pricey), but I did and I am SO thankful and so his Tanner!!! Thank you 3rd grade team at Boon!
Number 2: The Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Cradle Swing
It is safe to say that this swing was a NECESSITY at our home when Tanner was a baby! In fact, as many of you know, he slept in this swing in our bedroom for the first 5 months of his life (don't judge... we were first time parents in survival mode!!!). Tanner was so happy and content when in this swing, and I was able to set him down and actually get things done (and he slept like a charm in the swing)! It is just so snuggly! It takes up quite a bit of room, but well worth it! It rocks back & forth and side to side (Tanner's favorite). And, number 1: The Summer Handheld Video Monitor
Without a doubt, our number one baby/toddler item! COULD.NOT.LIVE.WITHOUT.IT! We are able to watch Tanner every single night fall asleep. It is so sweet watching him cuddle up with his animals. We can watch him sit up and look at a book or play with his animals when he is in his crib. We know if he is crying and laying down, he will fall back asleep, but if he is crying and standing, we need to go get him. We can take it all over the house with us. We know exactly how he is doing at all hours of the night without going upstairs to check on him in his nursery. We will definitely keep the video monitor for Tanner for his big boy room and get a new one for baby sister. It is seriously the best monitor ever, and I highly, highly recommend any parents looking for a monitor to consider it!!!!
OK, please let me know... what am I missing?!?!? What are your favorites??
